SHPark(ing) Chairs

The SHPark(ing) Chair is a perfect mashup of Community Center history and Pittsburgh expectations after shoveling snow. Adorned with a custom reflective sticker on the front and back, it’s ready for the next snow storm. It could also be nice for porch sitting while the weather is nice.

SHPark(ing) Chairs are free for Members (one chair per membership). Members can purchase additional chairs for $10/each. Non-Members can also purchase chairs for $10/each. Email SJBCCPGH@gmail.com to reserve your chairs.

Having Fun

The SHPark(ing) Chair idea was officially introduced in Episode 7 of Nooks & Crannies, the lighthearted video series created by SHPCC Board Members Kate Edelman and David Finer.

For decades these chairs have been part of Community Center dances, recitals, meetings, garden club, dinners, celebrations, elections, and more. They had a rich history inside the Community Center and to get them ready for this next chapter, they went on adventures outside the Community Center.

Meet Chairald and Chairaldine Black, fraternal twins born to Sarah and Jackson in 1939 (see what we did there?). From the very beginning, they were the best of friends. Check out some of their adventures!

They kicked it off by relaxing on the patio (freshly finished to protect from water damage!) with books from the Little Library…

They tried to take a bus downtown but their Connect cards were empty so…

Thankfully someone was there to explain the rules of pickleball (it’s new to them) and they practiced for the tournament…

…then took in the natural beauty of the beautifully-manicured garden next to the Community Center (whew, no turkeys).

…they meandered to the playground and had some fun on the slide.

…then grabbed their bikes and shared a pop at the fire station.

That wasn’t enough so they topped off with coffees from Parisi. The caffeine boost fueled them for the rest of the afternoon.

They posed for a picture in front of the Nine Mile Trail before taking a nature hike.

They headed down Commercial St to meet up with the primary contractor for the bridge. Things are looking good!

As avid baseball fans, Chairald and Chairaldine were disappointed they weren't around for the 1925 World Series, but they remember all of the other good times. Their final stop was to Les Getz Memorial Park to discuss their hopes for the relatively strong start of this season. Hoist the cone!

The reminiscing continued with an old friend who also happened to be at the baseball field!

Chairald and Chairaldine have many great memories of the Community Center and are looking forward to adventures in your home!
